The Old City of Montevideo is the reference point to begin to understand the history of both the city and the country. The historic quarter has a rich heritage and hides many secrets and anecdotes waiting to be discovered. Join us to tour the old town of our city, in a didactic, entertaining and decontracted way, with our team of professional guides in history and tourism. For about two and a half hours you will understand the rich history of Uruguay, the customs of our people and the pillars of our identity such as football, mate, gastronomy and art. At the end of the tour we will also give you a list of recommendations to help you throughout your stay. Monday to Saturday at 10:30 and 14:30. - ✓The meeting point is in Independence Square in front of the Citadel Gate. Independence Square is the most important point in the city. Rich in history and architecture, we will review the history of the country and the city in its process of independence and see emblematic buildings politically and architecturally.
- ✓Below the monument to José Artigas, there is his mausoleum where we will enter to see the place where his remains lie and talk about the history of the national hero of Uruguay
- ✓The Salvo Palace is the most emblematic building in Montevideo. We will be located in front of the building so you can appreciate its beauty while explaining its history and curiosities
- ✓The Solis Theatre is the most important theatre in the city. We will stop in front of it to explain its history and importance
- ✓The most important artery of the Old City neighborhood is the Sarandí Pedestrian, with its walk of fame
- ✓El Cabildo is a historic building from the colonial era in Montevideo that nowadays serves as a Historical Museum
- ✓The Plaza de la Constitución (Matrix Square) was the main square of colonial Montevideo. From this position the social, architectural and political construction of the country was developed
- ✓The Metropolitan Cathedral of Montevideo is another historic building. With both religious and historical importance, it is a must-see point of the city
