Chocolate, waffles, fries, beer... Belgian food is a real treat! Enjoy the delicious tastes of Belgium on this free food tour, where an expert local guide will take you around Ghent to try local specialties and tell you the story behind their taste. The numerous samples are included and the tour is tip-based, so don't forget to bring cash to reward the guide if you enjoyed it! As for beer, you will either receive a voucher for a free beer at GRUUT Brewery, which you can enjoy at your leisure after the tour, or we will take you to the brewery itself. This depends on the brewery’s opening hours.
What you'll see & do
- ✓We meet at Hostel Upperlink for a short introduction of our food culture, followed by a taste of the best fries in town at Frituur Tartaar. Once our guide tells you the story of the fries, you'll never call them French fries again!
- ✓Next stop is Ooost, the regional center for local products, to tell you about the famous Ganda ham and give you a taste of a delicious local candy that we try to keep hidden from the rest of the world.
- ✓Next on the menu is a chocolate treat, handmade in Gent. Our guide will tell you the story of chocolate and offer you a praline in the shape of Jan van Eyck's holy lamb.
- ✓Next on the menu are waffles, a popular treat since medieval times. We'll tell you the origins of the food and offer you a taste.
- ✓We end the tour with a ticket for a free glass of the famous local Gruut beer, which you can enjoy straight after the tour when the brewery opens in the afternoon.
