You leave at 8:20 from Dalmatinova 10, opposite the City Hotel, and you're back in Ljubljana about ten hours later. The morning is underground. A small train takes you deep into Postojna Cave, then you walk through halls of stalactites and see the olm, the blind cave salamander locals call the human fish. A short drive away, Predjama Castle sits in the mouth of a cave halfway up a cliff, and your guide tells the story of Erazem, the knight who held out here under siege. In the afternoon you reach Lake Bled. Take a traditional pletna boat to the island church and ring the wishing bell, climb to Bled Castle for the view over the lake, and leave time for a slice of Bled cream cake.
