Blue Mountains Wild Kangaroos & Sunset from Sydney - Late Start

Guided by a passionate hiker and photographer who has spent a lifetime in the Blue Mountains, this small-group day tour from Sydney goes where the tour buses don't. In a group of no more than 10, walk into the bush and find wild kangaroos grazing in Megalong Valley, then take real trails to lookouts most tours never reach. Want to push further on a longer, steeper stretch? You can. Want the shorter, easier path to the same view? You can do that too, and the group meets back up on the other side. Lunch is a proper Aussie pie with salad from Mountain High Pies, an award-winning Blue Mountains bakery, with around 20 varieties including vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. As dusk falls at Echo Point, enjoy a twilight spread of Shiraz, Brie and Danish Blue cheese, crackers, hummus and Australian sweets while Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos dive off the escarpment to roost. Included, not an upsell. Roughly 10 hours door to door, this is a tour for those seeking some soft adventure in nature.

What you'll see & do

  • Depart from the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel, Circular Quay.
  • Passing by as we leave the city.
  • Views as we cross the Anzac Bridge over Blackwattle Bay.
  • Passing by en route to the Blue Mountains.
  • Collect lunch from Mountain High Pies, an award-winning local bakery in Wentworth Falls village.
  • Walk formed trails along cliff top canyon rims with your guide’s local commentary.
  • A quieter alternative to the crowded main lookouts.
  • Follow the quieter Undercliff Track along the canyon rim, with sweeping views of the Jamison Valley, to a hidden waterfall lookout. The track passes Den Fenella, a tree-filled slot canyon carved by a stream that plummets 200 metres off the edge of the canyon rim.
  • A scenic drive along Cliff Drive through one of the Blue Mountains’ prettiest villages.
  • A secret Three Sisters viewpoint: a hidden spot used by rock climbers, with spectacular views of the Three Sisters and the Jamison Valley. This is the more adventurous path option.
  • Please note we do NOT stop here, however we can share commentary on this historic attraction and it's influence on tourism in the region
  • From here we follow a dramatic clifftop with sweeping views over the Grose Valley.
  • A short bushwalk filled with giant tree ferns.
  • Wild kangaroo sightings in their natural grazing habitat, with a picnic at Katoomba Falls Reserve in warmer months, often visited by sulphur-crested cockatoos, kookaburras, rosellas, magpies and galahs.
  • The last stop of the day, at a spectacular secret sunset location: usually the Three Sisters at Echo Point or Anvil Rock, subject to change on the day. This is where the twilight cheese and wine spread is enjoyed as the sun goes down.
  • The iconic lookout, offered as the easier path option.
