- ✓The mosque is opened Saturday to Thursday from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday it will be closed. Here you can admire the second largest handmade carpet in the world and the famous chandelier in the main prayer hall. The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Opened in 2001, this stunning marble mosque is one of the largest in the Gulf, with room to accommodate 20,000 worshipers. The mosque is built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone. The main musalla or prayer hall is square and 74.4 by 74.4 metres (244 by 244 feet) with a central dome rising to a height of 50 metres (160 ft) above the floor. Dress code: Visitors are required to dress modestly, cover the entire arms and legs, and not wear too tight clothing. · Women and girls aged seven and above must cover their hair. TAKE NOTE: That every FRIDAY the mosque are closed
